Foodie Bloopers – Oven mishap
I thought we might start a segment on Foodie Bloopers on my cooking mishaps with poorly drawn pictures just for funsies (otherwise it would just be just me displaying my not so great baking prowess hehehe). This one happened earlier this week.
I found a lovely recipe for lemon poppy seed cake from taste.com.au for an evening of baking. Everything was going wonderfully – with pin point measurements and oven ready to go at the right temperature. But then came the time to check if the cake was cooked through…
At about 40 minutes (the recommended time) I pulled the tray out to put the skewer in (please refer to picture):

Due to my poor judgement of my unusual heman strength and speed of my baking arm had + the forces of physics (which I can’t particularly explain) the pan decided to go the other way…

So the pan then decided to follow one of Murphy’s Laws (so that it makes my day even better
) and decided to land top first at the bottom of my oven ><

So lesson learned – don’t pull out the oven tray out too fast with your baking arm or stick the pan to the bottom of the oven tray… whichever – works for you
But on upside the cake still tasted amazing! Even the stuff stuck to the bottom of the oven hahahahaha
Referenced taste.com.au recipe: http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/6848/lemon+poppy+seed+drizzle+cake
Note: It was an excellent cake but I think it needed more lemon zest and juice for a stronger lemony flavour, even with the added drizzle.
Bon Appetit!

HAHAHAHAA…. I guess what you should do next time is waiting until the oven gets cold, and you don’t have to pull anything too fast.

I don’t doubt your HeMan strength! Definitely hope you keep up the Foodie Bloopers segment (not that I wish too many bloopers on you!).. I have enough to fill a book by now, I think.

At least your skewer wasn’t a katana.

It happened to my friend recently with a flourless chocolate cake. She salvaged what she could apart from the bits that were physically adhered to the floor’s surface and devoured what was dubbed ‘the floor cake’ with her boyfriend!

LMAO. Tragic story, but I bet you were laughing not long after! I think every food blogger has a fallen cake story. Mine was with a cake I baked especially for my brand new nieces arrival, open door…..frosted cake splat on the floor!

Leony: hahahaha that is some words of wisdom!! Will remember it for next time

Y: lol my biceps of fury are deceptive in their covering of much fat and skin! But yes I hope to make myself an absolute fool as often as possible by baking and cooking a ridiculous amount!!
The Ninja: hmmm a fine alternative to the skewer think!… but I never trust myself with sharp things!!! Hehehe
D: Why thank you – i pride myself spending many hours procrastinating like Mr Squiggle on MS paint
Grace: hehehe waste not want not!!
Deeba: Thanks! I am glad people out there empathise with me!!! Hahaha
mademoiselle délicieuse: lol the floor cake definitely has great ring to it! I shall call mine the oven cake! Hahahaha
Maria: I was laughing on the floor – quite literally and all my friends scurried on over to look at what i did and also joined me in the merriment!! Misery/laughter does love company
