Nazimi – Sydney CBD, Sydney

Nazimi is the type of restaurant that I would not normally notice unless brought to my attention, in this case it was due to Chris and Tim at thewayitcrumbles. A big thanks to her for blogging about this place because it was most definitely worth trying and I will be going back for more. Nazimi is a small underground place on the quiet side of QVB so it is quite easy to miss, well for me at least haha, unless you are actually looking for it.

Monkeyjaja, En.elle and Dannythemanny needed to fuel up before an intense session of L4D ^^! and this was the perfect place for it. I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy atmosphere and how much it reminded me of restaurants in Japan as well. Before we entered we could tell that there were already lots of customers in there enjoying and having a great time even at 9:30 at night. The staff here are also probably some of the most friendly and helpful ones I have met as well. Since they are Japanese they are also on the extreme end of politeness haha.
Here Comes the Food

Cremy Korocke ($6.80)

These croquettes were filled with a gooey and tasty filling but was also not too creamy. They had a beautiful crunchy deep fried bite to it but overall was pretty average. They did have cool lightning bolt sauces which was approproiate since they did disappear pretty fast.

These owls are just TOOOO cute ^^!

Tempura Mixed ($9.50) – deep fried prawn & vegetables with tempura dipping sauce
The crispy batter and soft and tender contents were fried with great skill as they did not turn out too oily at all.

Spider Roll ($14.80) – deep fried soft shell crab with avocado and cucumber
One of the major reasons I wanted to try this place was because of their awesome food presentation and this was definitely clever and most interesting way of presenting spider rolls I have seen yet. I was disappointed that we didn’t get a piece of soft shell crab in the middle of the web like what I saw at thewayitcrumbles though.

Extra mayonnaise
Japanese mayonnaise does have that extra something that makes it tastier than Western mayonnaise imo haha. The spider roll is a bit dry since all the mayo went into the web so it is worth asking for some extra mayo. Even this swirly mayonnaise looks so well presented haha

Chicken Katsudon
My chicken and egg katsu on a fluffy bed of rice was flavoursome and had a great array of textures. From the soft tender strips of grilled onions and silky smooth egg to the crispy crunch of the chicken katsu. I thought that there could have been a bit more egg and onions since they were quite generous with the rice.

Nazimi Dinner Box ($23)

A really good for value dinner box as you got a bit of everything and it als came with a bowl of rice and miso soup. The sashimi were quite fresh and tasty except for one piece of tuna which seemed a bit weird :S En.elle sure was a happy camper afterwards

Nazimi Udon
A simple plain-looking bowl of udon can be decieving as the flavours from this bowl were fabulous. The soup was light but warming and the udon has a brilliant snap to it.

I really liked the decor… sent me back to Japan whheeeee

A great find indeed, with friendly service, good food and at reasonable prices. The only small problem is that the are is small so can get a bit noisy but that’s all part of the fun!

This looks like my kind of place. The food presentation looks great without the air of pretention that some places can have.
Thanks for the write-up. Will have to check it out if I’m ever in the city

Oh no, you didn’t get a spider in the web =( Extra mayo was a very good idea though, I should have thought of that!

That place looks really good! The dinner box looks good although I don’t think I’ve ever seen cream spaghetti in one (although I love Japanese cream spaghetti). If you ever go to Tokyo I will find the name of the place that does the best cream croquettes. They are to die for!
