Atomic Espresso – Neutral Bay, Sydney

When I first read about Katsusando available in a cafe in Sydney, my heart seriously skipped a beat. All thanks to Nerd-blog/recently turned Nerdy-Food-blog Hungry Digital Elf, I was able once more sink my teeth into one of the best kind of sandwiches ever to be invented.
When I first arrived at Atomic Espresso , I had expected an Asian-style cafe especially it was owned by Hiro-san of Japaz but it turned out to be a nice cozy little place with wraps and other typical cafe style foods in store. There is one catch about the katsusando and that is they are “only available from Thursday to Saturday, and you have to call ahead and reserve yours – only 20 servings available a day for eat-in and takeaway.” They also take about an hour to prepare (or so I was informed by staff) which I think is a bit long but thou shant query the katsusando! Luckily I was prepared and had ordered 3 (yayyy!) for pick up to take home and gorge on.

Oohhh weavey lights

All bow before the katsusando tower *bow*

The opening of the boxes released the steamy aroma of freshly deep fried tonkatsu mmmm XD! Each bite of the juicy, thick pork with the perfectly crunchy exterior along with the generously spread seeded mustard on soft white bread combined to form a bite of heaven. I agree with Yas that the bread got a little bit soggy and I personally would have preferred thicker cut of the soft white bread. The portions are pretty decent but they are not cheap at all ($15 a pop) and I easily devoured 2 of them.. but one was actually filling enough (I was just being glutinous XD). The pickled gherkin is a good pre-katsusando snack and also makes you feel better about not eating any vegetables haha but I do suggest a salad side.

Look at that fat!! *drooooolllll*

I love katsusando and will definitely keep coming back for more ^^! Hmm maybe we can get some Mos Burger next haha.
Thanks Yas, much love ^^!

(Be sure to pre-order your katsusando at least an hour before pick up, also make sure it is not close to closing time!)

Wooooo yahhhhh! I had mine again on Saturday too!
Yeah I’ve got to say, eat-in should be better than takeaway to avoid the soggy bread eh? But I’d still be satisfied with the thick Katsu!

This looks epic, reminds me of Tokyo indeed. But at $15 a pop ? I’m sorry but they are raking it in hardcore!

YUM I must try this soon. Go us North Shoreans bloggers, we are a dwindling breed! It is a bit surprising that it takes an hour to make though…but I will also not argue if it’s that good

It’s pretty amazing to have a sandwich that takes an hour to prepare! No wonder they have a cult following.

So THIS was the katsusando that started all the chatter about it? Looks great but I bet it’s something best had eat in.
