Gamushara Ramen – Chinatown, Sydney

dsc_0110-2

I think there is a inverse relationship between time until the exams and procrastination levels so as time decreases, procrastination levels increase. What does one do for procrastinating… go and eat out ^^! One of my procrastinating trip led me to the city for some ramen (yay!) especially on this day as the chill factor was cooler than being cool, ice coolllddd (I am very influenced by what I’m listening to as I write this haha…).

My friend Monkeyjaja told me quite a while ago about this amazing new ramen shop, Gamushara, in the Eating World food court just 2 shops down from Kimama Kitchen, but I have been slow getting out to it as I am unable to venture to the city as much. Fortunately I was able to reach it a few weeks ago and it really was very satisfying so a second trip was imperative!

Here Comes the Food

Gyoza

The gyoza here are pretty good as they had a beautifully juicy and tender filling and a decent dumpling casing to hold in all the juices and flavours. My only complaint about the gyoza is the lack of crunchy bottom which is a must for gyoza in my books.

Miso Ramen

The defining characteristics of the ramen at Gamushara is the flavour and thickness of the stock which immediates hits you with the first slurp. The flavour is very intense which transports me back to Japan as I breathe out a satisfied ‘ahhh’. The Miso Ramen however did not have the same thickness and creaminess as the Tonkotsu Ramen which I had on my first visit. The tonkotsu soup had a slight stickiness from all the collagen but the miso soup did not have much of a miso flavour which was slightly disappointing. The noodles had a good texture and good bite to them but they could do better in my opinion. The chashu on this visit was about 100x better than the chashu I had on the first visit as this one had the neccessary fattiness which we all love haha. The egg however was a consistant star and is a must order (pity you have to order separetely but definitely worth it) with its running and gooey yolk.

Monkeyjaja also informed me that the soup was even thicker and they were more generous with the chashu when they first opened but maybe they watered it down a bit as it was too thick for the custormers here (they are very open to suggestions!).

dsc_0104-2Look at that egg! *droool*

The miso ramen was good but I am sticking to the tonkotsu next time as it had a better flavour! Gamushara, the latest competitor in the Sydney ramen market is a very worthy challenger that demands many revisits.

Ahhh you finally made it eh?

I don’t think it’s not that new, but I keep hearing about a ramen/japanese restaurant called Manmaru-ya in Campsie. Apparently famous for Tonkotsu & roasted garlic ramen – I’m going there soon to see what that’s like!

A runny egg sounds like a great addition. They should ask if you want a hard boiled or runny one with your ramen!

Settled for Menya, the terriyaki box combo wasn’t bad!

  13. Simon Says:

gyoza look so-so but the ramen doesn’t look half bad. Shame you have to order the egg separate as you said. It looks like it was made for that dish.
