Rengaya – North Sydney, Sydney (3)

Untitled-14

First off, I would like to apologize for the lack of posts this past week but it has been hectic busy with assignments, assessments and general assing around :P So now that I am finally free (YAY! In your face uni work) I am able to reminisce the heavenly meat tripping at the one-and-only Rengaya. The initial wave of yakiniku aroma as you enter is more than enough to send me into a feeding frenzy as a shark does when it scents blood. It has been too long a while since my last visit so the only way to satiate my yakiniku urges is through this yakiniku flash game hee hee.

It may have been a while since the last visit but everytime we usually order similat dishes and so typical I’s Group service meant Here Comes the Food

Untitled-1

Mix Seaweed Salad ($9.90)

A fresh salad with a combination of tasty ingredients and doused with a sweet sesame sauce. The bonito flakes are a great addition to the salad as it adds another texture to the dish. The sauce may be a bit overpowering for some so a good balance of salad is needed, otherwise is can get a bit sickly sweet.

Untitled-3

Salmon and Avocado Salad ($12.90)

The chunks of slippery salmon create a harmony with the balls of creamy avocado and crisp of the salad leaves. This is a winner of a combination especially with a drizzle of mayonnaise to add a bit of sweetness and bind everything together.

Untitled-2

Beef Tataki Salad ($15.90)

We chose to have our slivers of tender beef to be served with a ponzu sauce so it had a hint of sourness which matched perfectly with the beef. I also love the tiny slice of fried garlic which crunches and bursts with flavour.

Untitled-4

Salted Special Ox Tongue ($14.80)

Now getting on to business… Itadakimasuuu XD Starting off with some ox tongue is the way to get the fire going. These thing slices are very fatty and just melt flavour all throughout your mouth but have to be very careful not to burn them! I usually like to get a little bit of crisp to them so a bit browner than as depicted in the photo.

Untitled-5

Premium Ox Tongue ($28.80)

If you thought the thin slices of ox tongue were melty and fat wait til you try these babies. Who would have thought that french kissing a cow would be so tasty mmmmm. These big chunks of meat are extremely tender and burst flavour with each bite. Juicy, juicy tongue mmmmm pure bliss!

Untitled-6

Wagyu Premium Short Rib ($39.80)

A good idea is to ask the waitress what is freshest on the day and they usually have a few cuts which they recommend. This time was the short rib and boy was it good. The intense marbling meant a quick sear on each side and it was all ready to go. The meat just melts in the mouth and the bbq sauce flavour just adds that extra bit of flavour that is needed. I recommend getting meats with the bbq sauce rather than just salt and pepper but that is my personal preference.

Untitled-7

Wagyu Tri-tip ($27.80)

I highly recommend this cut of meat as well as it still packs a lot of flavour while not burning away your wallet like the premium meats. It is also a healthier cut of meat for those who are watching their cholesterol levels but if it were me I would end up eating twice as much hee hee “well this does have less cholesterol so double the order my good man!”

Untitled-8

Wagyu Rib Finger ($27.80)

The other cuts of meat are awesome but for me this is ultimate cut. If I could only choose one cut when dining here, then this would be it… the wagyu rib finger. Big generous chunks of meat with a good amount of marbling that it causes the flames to lick up. It always ends up in a big fight over these delicious morsels so have to quick with the chopsticks ;)

Untitled-11

Negi Yukke Bimbimba ($13.90)

It may seem a bit odd, but the best bimbimba I have ever had is actually from this Japanese restaurant. It may not be the most authentic bimbimba but the sone pot here is the real deal and that’s what makes it so good. It burns and chars the rice to a perfect browness if you just give it a quick stir at the beginning and then leave it to char. Just add in the spicy sauce and lots and lots more chunks of rib finger and you have a perfect meal.

Untitled-12

Mentaiko bimbimba ($13.90)

For those who have had enough of the meat, they also do a mean mentaiko bimbimba but I am not a fan of mentaiko I stick with my negi yukke ^^!

Untitled-9

Green Tea Ice Cream ($9)

After a heavy meaty meal, it is good idea to wind down with some refreshing green tea desserts ^^! The ice cream here is smooth and creamy and with the anko combination is it beautiful way to finish the meal. I also really like the cute round wooden spoons hee hee.

Untitled-10

Green Tea Brulee ($13.90)

They also do a pretty good brulee with some fruit and more anko. The crust could have had a better crack when the spoon went through but the rich green tea flavour and the sugary crust sent me into a sugary, mellow and peaceful state.

Untitled-13

I always thought of heaven as a huuuggeee buffet with every kind of food there is but if thats not the case, I could just settle with a yakiniku place with good quality meat ^^!

Drools at your meatfest. It all looks so good and agreed the stone pot is essential for BiBimbap for the crunchy rice bits (which I adore).
