Cheese and Pork Party ^^!

Nothing says “party” like a BIG PLATE OF MEAT! but when it comes to foodbloggers, that is merely just one of the dishes on offer. Accompanied by a big board of very colourful and various cheeses and a tray of fresh strawberries, rockmelon, labna (more cheese ^^!) and beetroot relish we were ready a measly 45mins-1hour post dinner. The herd of piglets consisted of Suze, Helen, Lex, Simon and Minh.

Chef Lex: I am an Arabian Porcine temptress… look at my seductive belly-dancinngg ooohhh
Pity I cannot take videos otherwise the show he put on for us was quite the seductive…. ok, I lied… it was just average
While Helen and Minh concentrated hard over bookworm the rest of us laid out the huge array of meats mainly contributed by Simon (Big Thanks!) while Suze prepared all the cheeses she brought back from Hunter Valley.

Mmmmm meatplate
A huge variety of prosciuttos, jamons and other cured porky products meant we were in for a good time. Simon provided us samples from many shops all over Sydney and ordered them in ascending order of price. (Shamelessly stolen from Helen):
- AC Butchery, Leichhardt – Prosciutto Crudo made locally and cured for at least 9 months
- Hudson Meats, Surry Hills – Prosciutto San Daniele and Jamon Iberico ($295/kg)
- Pino’s Dolce Vita, Kogarah – Prosciutto made locally from Sweet Bangalow Pork
- Talho Portuguese Butchery, Petersham – Presunto (cheapest at $2.60 for 6 slices but very salty – we ended up frying it into super salty but crispy bacon)
- Portugese Spanish Butchery, Petersham – Presunto
- Terry White, Randwick – Jamon Serrano and Jamon Iberico ($395/kg)

mini meatplate
It was a very interesting experience to sample all the different types of cured pork especially since they diff in so many ways like flavour, intensity, texture, contrast and aroma. The favourite of the selection was, unsurprisingly, the Jamon Iberico at a whopping $395/kg with its’ rich and deep taste it was very good indeed.

Cheeseboard
The array of cheeses where a great buffer between the salty slices of pork (some being on the brink of unbearably salty). The red cheese had been treated in red wine did not really have any red wine taste, the blue cheese was strong just as it should be, the green cheese was bought purely because it was green
hee hee, the crumbly cheese was probably my favourite one, while the brie was incredibly smooth and liquidy and I don’t think I got to try the last one. Paired up with a nice slice of crusty ciabatta this cheeseboard was a great success with a great variety of flavours, textures and consistencies ^^!

The written menu was very befitting as it was on a greasy piece of paper mmmmmm grease
All porked and cheesed out, I could hear my heart protesting but it was worth it! Huge thanks to Suze and everybody for making it an awesome night ^^!
