Ju-Rin – Crows Nest, Sydney

Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur… I mean Bokkemon, Doramon and Ju-Rin(mon?)
This pokemon/restaurant may have changed hands and names but hopefully the final evolution is here to stay. Situated along the pacific highway of Crows Nest, it is a little narrow but cozy restaurant that can be lost in among all the other resturants if you do not pay it much attention. From the outside, it is hard to peer inside as the glass is tinted and the reflection renders it possible to only view the cars passing by. Entering the restaurant, we are greeted by the usual and friendly “Irasshaimase~~” Here Comes the Food

For those who don’t know already, I love everything Japanese (well almost everything) and I shout it loud and proud. I am a Japanese-wannabe. From their cuisine to their anime and manga and their extreme fashion trends to all their weird and wonderful inventions (Chindoogu). I think you guys will agree with me that whoever came up with butterstick is a genius! Then there is their world of electronics and technology… say hai to R2-D2s alcoholic twin – the Asahi BEER ROBOT! A robot that stores and serves your a cool and refreshing beverage on demand, I want one! Hee hee but this brings us to good old Asahi Super Dry. Here Comes the Booze Read the rest of this entry »
Unleash the Tasty Stick!

Shouting out “I LOVE EATING THIS TASTY STICK!” will definitely make the wrong impression but it is something that just bursts out when I have this between the palms of my hand….
I think we should first clarify that I am talking about Umai-Bo, a delicious Japanese snack that is a part of any childs’ daily intake. Along with its delicious crispy texture and huge variation of flavours the mascot, Umaemon, is a pun/copy of the famous Doraemon. (I mean who would not go “awesommeeeee” at a Doraemon look-alike boxing an octopus!?)

Flavours starting from top left and going clockwise: Prawn Mayonnaise, Salami, Vegetable salad, Corn potage, Cheese, Chicken curry, Mentaiko and tonkatsu sauce
Recently my Aunty came over and I asked her to bring me some of these tasty-sticks and I was pleasantly surprised by a sports bag full of Umaibo! She brought me 8 packs of 30 and 3 of the larger assorted Umaibo packs. When I first saw the larger assortment packs I was hoping that it was actually a giant Umaibo but all the different flavours that it came with was still good.

Some of the other flavours (left to right): Teriyaki Burger, Beef Tongue and Pork Kimchi
Yas had posted on his method of eating tasty sticks but here is my method for the greedy people hee hee:

Step 1 – pick up your chosen tasty stick
Step 2 – peel away a strip of the foil which is very easy cos of the tabs at the top
Step 3 – expose half of the tasty stick

Step 4 -*BAKU* bite half and soak up all of the intense flavouring
Step 5 – pop the rest of the stick in you mouth and let out a big satisfied moan
Step 6 – Check the bottom of the packet for crumbs and other flavourings in the wrapper
Step 7 – choose your next victim and repeat
Now who wants to party it up with my Tasty-sticks
